The Mississippi Legislature passed a bill allowing municipalities to allow low-speed vehicles like golf carts on public roads. Hernando officials are allowing those vehicles to operate in the DeSoto County city.
The switch to video format allowed Johnson to speak about the city from various locations that were points of discussion, including Conger Park, Pidgeon Skate Park and the future Hernando High School.
Hernando aldermen approved allowing food trucks in the DeSoto County city, but not at the expense of existing brick-and-mortar restaurants.
“Last year, we gave a 5% raise to employees, but the cost of living rose 8%,” Mayor Chip Johnson said. “We need to stay competitive … We don’t want them to leave for other cities.”
With a facility that is as long as the Empire State Building is high, Associated Wholesale Grocers has opened at the junction of Interstate 55 and Interstate 269 in DeSoto County.
While Hernando voters rejected a tax on prepared foods at restaurants to improve parks, Hernando leaders plan to expand its facilities with the purchase of the Civic Center.
